Exploring the Same “Arc”
What happens if multiple teams explore the same particular “arc” (or first-order implication)?
Consistent with our “scouting metaphor,” if we send good scouts out over the same territory, they’re likely to discover the different important elements, particularly if the topic is very broad. They will certainly see different things.
One somewhat limited, but very controlled experiment on this factor showed this to be true. Teams starting with a high percentage of both first and second-order implications that were identical develop unique implications at a very high rate — 80+%. Contact us for information on this experiment.
Our advice to facilitators: if the topic and the amount of participants allows it, have multiple teams explore the same territory.
